It was a blustery day on St. Simons, but that did not stop the critics of the president from coming out to let their feelings known. Preceded by an earlier protest in Brunswick on the mainland, the St. Simons gathering was especially well attended and outspoken. Friends and neighbors came together with homemade signs and voiced their opposition to Trump and the MAGA movement. For the first time in a long while, I felt good about the United States.
Given the small population and the resort character of the island, the protest was most impressive. The turnout was especially revealing as to how deeply Trump’s politics have alienated American voters. While the war with Iran was predictably unpopular, I was struck by how strong the opposition against Trump’s immigration policies continue to be; ICE appears to be public enemy number one in the minds of many people
Though small in size and perhaps not representative of the state, the turnout on St. Simons gave me hope that the American people will do the right thing in the end and reject the angry misguided politics of the present administration. Yesterday, we came together and joined the thousands of people across the nation to send a message of opposition to Washington.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION, MR. PRESIDENT. Residents of St. Simons Island.

A post-rally photo with some rather pointed comments.
