This morning’s editorial entitled “The ICE Shooting in Minneapolis”* in The Wall Street Journal is the usual disingenuous attempt by Republican apologists to assuage Republican guilt. Time and time again after terrible tragedies they trot out their sanctimonious laments about “both sides being wrong.” The biggest fool among us knows that sending armed paramilitaries into our communities, goons armed to the teeth with masks telling innocent motorists to get “the f**k out of the car!” may well result in unrest and violence.
The Wall Street Journal editorial writers should be ashamed for letting their partisan roles obscure the truth.
All tragedies are not always the fault of both sides; sometimes, just sometimes, one side is to blame and that fact must be called out. Unfortunately, this tactic is too often trotted out to satisfy editorial partisanship and genuflect to conservatives readers. Such journalism is dishonest and gives cover for those who hold both the law and citizens in low esteem.
The ongoing chaos brought by Trump’s obsessive overreach will only be ended when all of us, together, stand up and say no more. This means that The Wall Street Journal, with its partisan editorial policy, must at times tell the truth even if it challenges its constituency.
