Fauda is the title of an Israeli television series depicting the complexity and violence of the Israeli – Palestinian conflict. It’s most interesting and convincingly informative about the inevitable and irreconcilable politics of the region. I just finished watching the latest season which addressed the horrific October 7th attack and its aftermath. Without trying to sound absurd, the title, which means chaos in Arabic, reminds me of our politics since Trump’s election in 2016.
Call me hysterical if you like, but it should be clear to most of us by now that Trump’s modus operandi is simply to keep the caldron that is politics stirred up and constantly changing, one crisis or topic after another so as to get his way. Each morning, every day there is something new or critical that demands our attention and distracts us from the critically substantive issues that beg attention. It’s a con from a con-man wheeling and dealing.
The scheme: keep talking and overload the conscious.
Ask yourself, what has happened to “critical race theory” and the allegation that Haitian immigrants were eating dogs and cats in Springfield, Ohio? It’s one fake crisis after another, including the hullabaloo about illegal immigrants voting and the corruption of mail-in voting, the 2024 presidential election and the so-called anti-semitism of universities.
The sick ongoing bulls**t involving the Kennedy Center should be a wake-up call. This morning’s headline that Trump vows to stop the Center’s renovation unless his name is added to the building is the madness of an out of control megalomaniac bent on taking everything down unless he gets his way.
This is where the Trump presidency has taken us, just as predicted by many back in 2016. It’s chaos.
