It’s days like today that make me question humanity’s sanity. Nothing seems to be happening which gives me time to think about what’s important. As I opened my computer, coffee in hand, there wasn’t much news, no “breaking” news about whether President Biden would bow to efforts to get him to step down, no headlines about Trump’s latest antics. The New York Times was mostly stuff that had come out during the previous week, The Wall Street Journal published its weekend edition yesterday, and The Washington Post was more of the same also. America and the world just seemed to be waiting to go back to work tomorrow. Even the bad guys took a day off.
The killings, the threats and the lies, the dehumanizing of immigrants and the macho rhetoric of politicians, terrorists and wannabes have gone silent if only for a moment before business as usual resumes on Monday. Even the prima donnas of violence seem to be exhausted, if only for a day. Today we are more interested in who is winning the British Open or whether the aging Rafael Nadal will win his first tournament since 2022.
Even the most callused and angry among us must wonder whether all the hate, partisanship and cocksure convictions in one’s own superiority are worth it. Are we so naive or so selfish to believe the truth is known only to us.
As I write this, I look at Shelby, my young black Lab, asleep on the sofa, at peace with the world, not mad at anyone. She is a bundle of unconditional love.
Nothing like a black lab to love – unless it is a squeaker dog!! I think “they” are all taking a break to reload and prepare for the “charge” coming up! Seems like the background keeps the pot stirring while they are strategizing for the war. It is amazing how many factions are at work – in a mathematical sense, sines and cosines, tangents and cotangents – feels like one must be an engineer with a Phd AND fifty years of political savvy to make sure the best man/woman wins! God help us and keep us!
Thanks, but so much for a slow news day, Biden just announced he would not run for a second term. Now the fun begins!
