Yesterday I had the good fortune to attend a neighborhood meet and greet for Patti Hewitt, candidate for the U.S. House, 1st Congressional District of Georgia. It was a lovely get together hosted by David Blumenfeld and his wife, Paula Eubanks, at their beautiful home on St. Simons.
Ms. Hewitt, a Democrat, is running against Earl “Buddy” Carter, the present incumbent. Candidly, I seldom go to such gatherings and was there in this case because the hosts are dear friends. To my surprise I came away with a good feeling about Ms. Hewitt and an appreciation for her candidacy. She presented herself cordially and informally with a gravitas that is most impressive. In short, she struck me as being worthy of my support. She is well-informed and hard working and, above all, a no-nonsense person whose election would benefit coastal Georgia.
I will certainly cast my ballot for Ms. Hewitt. Mr. Carter, to the disbelief of many here, has waffled on the preservation of the Okefenokee while tacitly supporting the mining interests. And, if this is not enough, he has stooped to the machinations of Trump and his supporters from the git-go.
