This has been an unusually cold winter here on St. Simons. It’s out of character to see locals bundled up with stocking caps and sweaters this late in the season. Things have been made worse by the fact that the last several winters have been spring-like with warm and sunny weather. We still have the sun, but the warm seems to have deserted us for further south. Grumble, grumble.
Everyone is waiting for paradise to return, thinking it must be just around the corner. Yeah, I know, we could be in upstate New York or Iowa, but we ain’t and want to complain.
This together with the sad state of our politics and international crises, has slowed my writing and turned my energies toward having fun. As a result I recently went out and bought an old jeep, something that was kind of on my bucket list. It’s a 1985 CJ7 and it’s a beauty – got it from my stepson and his wife who got it from a neighbor who got it from someone else and so on. It’s old and been around, but it’s mine now. The odometer says it has 76,000 miles but there are probably another several hundred thousand before that. Right now It’s in the shop where I suspect it will spend lots of time. I just had to do it!
We also got involved in a cook-off with our Canadian friends. Officially known as the “Pasta Wars,” it is now in its 5th iteration and going strong. At this point, I’m really in over my head, but I’m stumbling along against real gourmets way out of my class. More on this later.
Keep trucking…
