Let me see if I understand where we are in our politics. The president is claiming he won the election, and his lieutenants are saying so, too. Further, much of the citizenry – that’s us – are going along with this. And the electoral college vote was 306 for Biden and 270 for Trump. The popular vote was 81,281,502 votes for Biden and 74,222,593 votes for Trump.
Huh? Yes, I know there are charges of fraud by the president and his supporters, but all the lawsuits and efforts to prove such have failed in the courts. Still, this silliness goes on and on, including the president coming to Georgia to hold a rally in support of his allegations. If all this is not enough to make you blink, the latest revelation is the tape of the president’s phone call to the Georgia Secretary of State in which he begs for a recalculation in his favor.
Here’s my question. Just who is crazy here? Growing consensus seems to be that the president has, in fact, lost it. This is a reasonable deduction if he actually believes he won the votes. Okay, so what about the multitudes out there in his “base” who have continued to support him? They must be nuts, too, right?
This leaves those of us who didn’t vote for him in the first place; so we never were nuts. The only ones left are “all the king’s men” (read lieutenants) who plan to challenge the election results when the final tally of the electoral votes takes place on January 6th. If they are not nuts, then they are rotten to the core, and that is scary!
