Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. There’s no long commercial hype leading up to it, no pressure to decorate, and no presents necessary—just getting together and enjoying the company of friends and family.
Yet Thanksgiving is a seriously meaningful holiday for all of us as we commemorate our good fortune, prosperity, and well-being. In short, it is a humble celebration of America without the bravado of flag-waving and jingoism. At its best it is all about giving thanks.
This year with the pandemic, Thanksgiving will be different, but with luck we will still enjoy the traditional fare and show gratitude for what we have, however modest given the circumstances. Whether alone or with immediate family, we will endure and look forward to the promise of a bright future. Americans will survive this awful pandemic and somehow put our country back together again for the common good. We always have.
Happy Thanksgiving!
