It’s quiet as well as beautiful. The only sound is a slight wind occasionally blowing across the marsh as the day grows longer. Everything here is about the nature of the land and the tidal reach of the ocean beyond the horizon. No one drives by, there are no people or the usual hum of “civilization” that we all take for granted. At night, the dark closes in except for the light of the moon and stars or the faint glow of boats moored far out in anchorages convenient to the sea.
Being here is just what the doctor ordered, peace and quiet, a perfect therapy to escape the cacophony of politics and the twenty-four hour news cycle with its “breaking” stories and partisan lies. Here the weather is most important, dictating whether we go fishing or crabbing or curl up with a good book. The biggest challenge might be what’s for dinner, roasted oysters or Georgia shrimp fresh off the dock in Darien.
