At the recent No Kings rally on St. Simons, I met Pat Wilver, Democratic candidate for the coastal district being vacated by Buddy Carter. Though I had missed his speech to the assembled crowd, I had an opportunity to chat with him about our mutual interest after he noticed my Appalachian Trail cap.
My wife and I found him to be an articulate, affable and well-informed young man. He was genuinely interested in my experience on the AT and we chatted about the difficulty of the trail in Georgia and the joy of communing with nature. At that point, he casually mentioned that he had completed the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada and we talked about that experience.
Perhaps the most impressive thing about Mr. Wilver was his modesty, a quality all too often in short supply with our local politicos. He elected not to mention that he is a West Point graduate, an Army Ranger veteran and a small business owner in Savannah. It struck us that Pat Wilver is the kind of person who as a congressman would make us proud and serve all Georgians with integrity and honesty.
