This morning I received a short statement of how our neighbors to the north see the outcome of our recent elections. It was from our Canadian correspondent whom I had asked to let me know what his fellow citizens thought about the Democrats’ big win. Certainly, I thought they must be excited to finally see some relief from our president’s inexplicable persecution.
I have enclosed his comments in full for your perusal. Do note that the tone of his remarks is stereotypical of the Canadians low-key, friendly and polite reputation. What it does not reveal, however, is how deeply Trump’s actions have offended Canadians.
“Generally, Canada views it as a good thing. We are hoping that some of the tariff issues get resolved. Business people do not like uncertainty.
However, we do not plan to change our drive to diversity who we trade with. It was a wake-up call for us that having one trading partner is not a good thing. It worked well for many years, but clearly with the wrong president in charge it causes problems.
Luckily for us, we have a very competent Prime Minister in charge. I think he is doing an excellent job and his direction will be good for the country.
Let’s hope our two countries become friends again. It will take some time, but I think the memory of Trump will fade and things will get back to a more normal state.” *
