How’s that for a title? Incongruous doesn’t describe the comparison; it’s simply too absurd to think of the two men in the same breath. See “Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway Farewell: ‘I’m Going Quiet’” in The York Times, 1l November 2025. Reading it almost makes you cry that fate has given us Trump instead of a person with Buffet’s humanity. It is embarrassing that a nation of 340 million people would elect a person of Trump’s sordid character and incompetence.
Buffet’s reputation and his recent farewell begs soul-searching and thoughts about politics and leadership. His comments about “going quiet” is a stark contrast to the bravado and self-interest of too many politicians. And his modesty and honesty are anachronisms in an age of egotism and mendacity.
He talks about how the United States can be “capricious” and “venal” but deserves praise for “maximizing” our opportunities and reminds us that the “cleaning lady is as much a human being as the chairman” of the board.
Humorously or, maybe not, he concludes: “I wish all who read this a very happy Thanksgiving. Yes, even the jerks; it’s never too late to change.”
