This morning I got up as usual, let the dog out, made some coffee and settled in front of my computer to get caught up with the world. The morning here was absolutely wonderful, warm and sunny, holding promise that a beautiful spring was in the offing. The latest news from Ukraine, however, dashed my hopes. As always, Mother Nature marches on as our world is bent on self-destruction.
The crisis in the Ukraine, however terrible, however brutal and far-reaching, is just the latest atrocity to confront us as we take stock of our world. As I write these words I cannot help but think of how this sounds; people in Ukraine will die, people like you and me. It’s more bad news, the sort of thing that we have become inured to, headlines that don’t affect us and stuff we can’t control.
Here at home we can’t agree on much or even make common cause in face of external threats these days. The coronavirus pandemic brought death, and we argued about face masks, the attack on the Capitol never happened, the 2020 presidential election was phony, and Donald Trump was the greatest president ever. We have turned truth and reality upside down. What do you expect from Vladimir Putin?
