It’s almost become a major parlor game among political pundits to examine why so many voters are so loyal to Trump and why they stand behind him despite overwhelming evidence of his corruption and faithless execution of his duties while president. While the question begs an answer, it enjoins us to repeat ad nauseam the particulars of his presidency and his subsequent actions since 2020 lest voters forget his threat to law and constitutional government.
One response to my post “Over the Transom” deserves to be reprinted here as it succinctly asks “why” and reminds us of Trump’s personal flaws and failures as a leader.
From Author/screenwriter Darryl Ponicsan, 9/3/2024:
“I’m always baffled by the people who sit behind him at his rallies. They clearly love him. I want to ask them why.
Is it his honesty?
Is it his statesmanship?
Is it his manly physique?
Or his natural good looks?
Is it his tolerance?
Is it his compassion?
Is it his decisiveness?
Or his stability?
Is it his command of the language?
Is it his intelligence?
Is it his grasp of logic?
Or that he takes responsibility?
Is it his steadfastness?
Is it his love for animals and nature?
Is it his military service?
Or his courage?
Is it his truthfulness?
Is it his respect for the law?
Is it his appreciation of the arts?
Or his business acumen?
Is it his generosity?
Is it his humility?
Is it his sense of humor?
Or his work ethic?
Is it that he gives credit to others?
Is it that he accepts blame himself?
Is it his empathy?
Or his record of public service?
Is it his regard for other cultures?
Is it his hospitality?
Is it his transparency?
Or his respect for our institutions?
Is it his forbearance?
Is it his patience?
Is it his even temper?
Or the sacrifices he’s made?
Is it his Christianity?
Is it his respect for women?
Is it his sense of fair play?
Or his charitable foundation?
None of the above? Then what possesses you to say, ‘Yeah, that’s our guy, we stand with him!’”
