Fate has given us Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president in November 2024. As a daughter of immigrant parents, Jamaican and Indian, the nation’s first woman vice president, lawyer and prosecutor, her story is straight out of central casting, a heroine chosen to save us from ourselves.
Back in 2008, I posted my first blog* arguing that the time was right to elect an African American president, contending that Barack Obama was the right person at the right time. Today, as in 2008, events have come together and the political climate is right for bold action to right the ship of state. The collapse of President Biden’s bid for a second term was more than a shift to new leadership; it prophetically opened the door for his sitting vice president, a woman, to take center stage. The odds of electing a woman president have never been higher – Kamala Harris is in the right place at the right time.
Above all, Vice President Harris is the only choice at this time. Her election is the only thing standing between us and the potential dismantling of our constitutional government and democratic traditions. Voting for the former president is absolutely unconscionable given his history and outspoken plans if elected.
Fate beckons us to seize our destiny.
