Yesterday marked the six-month anniversary since the January 6 attack on the Capitol. The media was trumpeting the news most of the day along with incriminating film of the actual event as it unfolded. Republicans and Trump acolytes will, of course, complain that the media keeps things stirred up and say that we need to put the events of that day behind us. Never mind that it was an unprecedented assault instigated by a Republican president to interfere with the 2020 presidential election. The media was just doing its job, and, besides, the story sells, something conservatives normally herald as private enterprise.<\/p>\n
There has been a rush to move on, to forget that fateful day and get back to business as usual. Republicans, conservatives, and fellow travelers continue to characterize the assault and riot as a peaceful protest by loyal citizens in exercise of their rights. They don\u2019t want a professional, bipartisan investigation because of what it might reveal about themselves and their supporters. They don\u2019t want us to believe our \u201clying eyes and ears.\u201d But make no mistake, what happened on January 6 was sedition in the full definition of the word.<\/p>\n
For my part, I will continue to bring this up along with the unconscionable government response to the Covid-19 pandemic by the Trump administration. Both events should long serve as examples of what happens when we let hate and greed dictate our politics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
