My regimen of reading the Wall Street Journal<\/em> every morning was surprisingly pleasant this past weekend. Peggy Noonan\u2019s column in the weekend edition of the Journal<\/em>\u00a0 presented a balanced review of current politics which was a welcome relief from the partisan wars. In addition, I came across a marvelous recipe for Mexican food that I can\u2019t wait to try.<\/p>\n

As I\u2019ve commented frequently in these pages the Journal\u00a0<\/em> in its role as \u201cHer Majesty\u2019s Loyal Opposition,\u201d too often goes over the top in cherry picking and nit picking in its opining on left of right politics. Sometimes it\u2019s amusing, other times downright disingenuous\u2014guess it sells a lot of papers.<\/p>\n

Peggy Noonan\u2019s opinion piece entitled \u201cBiden\u2019s Multitrillion-Dollar Gamble\u201d struck me as a reasonable analysis without the usual sarcasm and vitriol expressed on the Journal\u2019s<\/em> opinion page. She didn\u2019t demonize the president or belittle Democrats and their thinking. At the same time, she did not give the Democrats a free pass and was honest about her right leaning reservations about what the White House is doing. As I said, it gave a balanced picture and in doing so pulled the reader into appreciating both liberal and conservative points of view. We need more of these discussions.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t know, the Journal\u2019s<\/em> two-day weekend edition is a treasure trove of information and a delight to peruse. It includes a variety of topics ranging from architecture to book reviews and cooking, to name a few. The \u201cEating and Drinking\u201d section had an interesting recipe for meatballs in chile-tomato broth. I\u2019ve always thought that Mexican food was proof of their genius; their popular cuisine uses most of the same ingredients to produce a rich array of everything from tacos to tamales, all with different tastes. \u201cAlbondigas en caldillo\u201d in Spanish is a go-to soup that we would call \u201ccomfort food.\u201d Comprised of tomatoes, poblanos, cilantro, pork, onions, chiles, chard and potatoes it is easy and can be stretched out over several days for dinner and lunch. As for the Wall Street Journal<\/em>, \u201cbless its heart\u201d for printing such a fine weekend paper.<\/p>\n
