This is one of my attempts at writing poetry, doggerel or just stringing words together that make sense to me at the time. In this case, I\u2019ve tried to express some thoughts about how it feels for many of us to be experiencing the awful politics of today – how depressing and pessimistic thoughts prevail while holding on to hope.<\/p>\n
Coping<\/p>\n
As the days pass, turning to months
\nBecoming years, hope turns to fear
\nThat Uncle Sam is aging poorly
\nShowing dementia
\nHospice bound<\/p>\n
Can it be, say it can\u2019t
\nSo quickly we\u2019ve lost our way
\nAs leader of light and truth
\nOur promise unfulfilled
\nA loss for all, here and there<\/p>\n
Did it have to be
\nHate destroying friendships
\nCompeting lies and contempt
\nRespect and fair play
\nGone asunder with no regret<\/p>\n
We are getting by, grasping right
\nShedding tears but fighting still
\nTo save ourselves and Uncle Sam
\nPreserving liberty
