Things look gloomy and overcast with doubt and disbelief. Fear mixes with anger brewing hopelessness and disillusionment. The forecast is not good.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve been out of pocket recently, nursing misgivings about the human race, the upcoming election and the treason of friends who have joined the dark side. I\u2019ve also taken time off to visit my alter ego down in Florida who was in the hospital; he\u2019s doing much better now thankfully.<\/p>\n
Reluctantly, I\u2019ve come to the conclusion that Trump will prevail in the upcoming election by winning the electoral college. I say this with grave misgivings, but if the polls are reasonably correct, it seems he is in a strong position to carry enough swing states to win the required 270 votes. Presumably the popular vote will once again go to the Democrats.<\/p>\n
The news is much the same with two warring camps in a standoff with a shrinking group of \u201cundecideds\u201d who are probably not enough to make a difference. Unthinkable numbers of people, many of the commercial class, will vote for Trump because for them, he offers a handful of policies that fit their political views or benefit their pocketbook. Privately many acknowledge he is a sleaze bag with the morals of an alley cat.<\/p>\n
Then there is the whole bag of incorrigibles, the Christian Nationalists, white supremacists, assorted wing nuts and others who don\u2019t give a damn about much of anything. They subscribe to a fantasy that denies all the progress that has allowed them to be who they are despite their spewing of hate and disrespect for middle-class conventions. And don\u2019t forget the many bigots who would never vote for Kamala Harris simply because she is black and a woman of mixed immigrant ancestry.<\/p>\n
Any hope for a different scenario hinges on what the Nikki Haley supporters do. They make up sufficient numbers of the Republican electorate to make a difference if a majority could courageously vote for Harris to save the Union. In that case, there might be a sizable landslide to put Harris in the White House. Unfortunately, I don\u2019t hold out much hope for this as the hatred for the Democrats is deeply ingrained in the Right. Most disillusioned Haley people will either sit out the election or vote for Trump rather than put the nation first by voting for Vice President Harris.<\/p>\n
What I\u2019m cocksure of is that I don\u2019t have a shred of respect left for Republican friends who continue to support Donald Trump. Shame on them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
