With the presidential election bearing down on us amid the meltdown about Biden and the continued absurdity of Trump, I can\u2019t help but liken it to a parody of Saturday Night Live. You\u2019ve got to pinch yourself to see if we are really living this nightmare! We are choosing our next president from a pool of two, neither of whom the majority of the electorate wants as its candidate. How crazy is that? It might be something right out of John Belushi\u2019s antics in Animal House. Whatever happens the next four years might last for the next four decades or much longer.<\/p>\n
The Biden story is both sad and sordid. He has been a good president – the economy is strong, unemployment is down and American leadership has revitalized NATO in face of Russian aggression. Further, Joe is a decent man, a patriot who respects our constitutional republic and democratic traditions. He has a long and distinguished career as a public servant. Unfortunately, the recent debate raises serious questions about his fitness, at this point, for another four years in office. This is sad, but it only accentuates why so many voters have soured on his candidacy.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, too, is the allegation that those closest to the president have knowingly worked to cover up his frailty to perform his duties for the next four years if reelected. Partisanship, even loyalty, should not jeopardize honoring an oath to protect and preserve our nation.<\/p>\n
What about Trump? He didn\u2019t answer any of the questions and, as always, traded in lies about everything, just throwing stuff out, repeating falsehoods and personally attacking the president\u2019s integrity. Little has been noted about his performance which, if stronger physically speaking, was undeniably dishonest and indefensibly ignorant. He is an evil man who is clearly unfit to be president or any civil servant. Only recently he proudly admitted that for a long time he never \u201cknew what the hell NATO\u201d was, something known by most middle- school kids. The truth is Trump is not popular with many in his own party as well as those who consider themselves independent.<\/p>\n
Despite the drama, however, the only choice is for the Democrats to sort out what they are going to do: go with Biden or try to make change at the convention in August. Trump should not be a choice for any patriotic American under any circumstance, including political partisanship. If there ever were those \u201cdeplorables\u201d Hillary mentioned, they would be those who continue to vote for Trump in face of incontrovertible evidence that he has disgraced America\u2019s reputation and is unfit for leadership, not to mention that he is a convicted felon.<\/p>\n
Ideally, it would be best if President Biden faces reality and steps down so that the Democrats can choose another candidate in a fair and orderly vote at the convention. That said, if he remains the party\u2019s nominee, Democrats, independents and Republicans, who put their country first, should support Biden\u2019s candidacy and vote for him in November. I will.<\/p>\n
We must do better in the future so as to not find ourselves in such an untenable situation as the present. We must tell the truth about our president and candidates and act upon it. We should put America first.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
